Need help!! 2 offers - Blackrock or EY

Hi All,

Need an advice from all of you experienced people.

Currently I am working in EY as an analyst in risk management team and this year I am expecting promotion. My profile is basically to manage risk through various processes.

on the other hand, I am getting a good offer from BlackRock risk compliance( legal and compliane team) . If I talk in salary terms if i get promotion here, there will not be a big difference . So I am unable to take decision that I should wait in EY for the promotion or should switch to BlackRock.

My main objective is to get a job in investment banking firm after MBA. I will work for max. two years and then will go for MBA.

Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance.

I would probably stick with EY especially if the compensation is similar. At least at EY you would be considered a revenue creator whereas you would be a cost center at BlackRock. BlackRock is also going through some employee reductions right now. No idea if those reductions are targeting risk, but I would think its an area that could be on the chopping block.

Tough one - models_and_bottles has a really good point when he said, " At least at EY you would be considered a revenue creator whereas you would be a cost center at BlackRock. BlackRock is also going through some employee reductions right now."

However, there are definite benefits to having BlackRock on your resume (prestigious name). I believe it will be easier to bounce around career paths coming from EY than BlackRock though - so you should really make sure that Asset Management is the path you want to work in going forward.

In terms of your end goal of working at an investment banking firm - do you mean in the back office? If not, I suggest your next move be to more of a middle office or front office role rather than another back office role. This will also help with grad school recruiting.

This is really helpful. Thank you

My end goal is investment banking firm and definitely not back office. But right now problem I face is I do not have bachelor degree from a good college and secondly my experience is of 2 years and is of back office only. So then how can I make to middle or front office at this point of time. Any suggestions? I would love to know if ANYHOW I can make to middle or front office.

Due to the reason I do not have a good college degree. I have decided for an MBA from a good college doesn't matter if it takes to get a good college.
