PIMCO portfolio management post-MBA

PIMCO recruits at the top b-schools for account management, product management, and portfolio management. The latter is obviously the hardest to get, and it's one of my "dream" post-mba jobs. I would love to hear from anyone who has interviewed for this position and what the interview was like. Supposedly they only hire 1-2 MBAs per year for this role?

I interviewed there for summer pm. was offered. did my due diligence on them. and turned it town. pimco gets a lot of love on the board as a "dream job" but i think folks are not well informed. yes, its a big firm. and yes it looks good on the resume in the fixed income world. and yes it's in newport beach. but pimco has a terrible culture. there are so many better places to work.

Actually kind of curious if you could elaborate. PM me if you don't want to share it publicly.

I don't really have a lot to elaborate on except to say, generally, that aggressive personalities do well there and the d-bag quotient is higher than most places.

I'll give one anecdote. When I was in the recruiting process, I had a guy lecture me about an innocuous typo/spelling error I made in an email to him ("you need to triple check your emails before sending them to me, it reflects poorly on you, blah, blah, blah..."). And this was a guy that wasn't even part of the recruiting team, but a recent hire and alumnus that I reached out to separately to learn more about the firm.

I interviewed there for a portfolio associate position. Made it to 3rd round but throughout the process all of the current portfolio associates that I interviewed with seemed to hate the culture. I heard it was brutal and they talked crap about their managers. Also, they told me it's very rare to go from the portfolio associate role to PM as they hire people externally for PM roles. It's only to be used as a stepping stone into some other firm.

I've heard a lot of bad things about the culture, so I'm really not sure why this would be your dream job. I think you should really do some due diligence on them.

making a one eight zero.
