Portfolio Analyst at a RIA?

Anyone have any insight as to if this would be a decent entry level role out of a MSF program? I'm looking to get into either sell or buy side equity research and maybe a hedge fund eventually. I have internship experience at a boutique investment bank as an analyst. The firm I'm interviewing with has about $300 million AUM. After speaking with the portfolio manager he made it sound like I would be primarily researching individual equities rather than mutual funds and indexes. Is this far fetched for a RIA?
