Should I shift interest from AM?

Approaching the end of my undergrad with degrees from non-targets—one from a school in England and one from Switzerland (double-degree top-up). I’ve been applying for internships mainly in AM for the past two years and then closest I’ve gotten was with HSBC private banking in Geneva and a small gig at a boutique PE firm. HSBC didn’t tell me why I wasn’t hired but I assumed it had more to do with my lack of professional proficiency in French, and the PE gig was simply a timing issue. I’m waiting to hear back from Natixis IM in London about a six month internship but visas post -BREXIT are tricky and expensive.

As of late I’ve been looking for jobs in the US (im a citizen) and the only thing I have to rely on is my network. Every app I do is tough because I don’t have the necessary experience.

At this point I’m unsure if I should take any job I can get to gain experience in something adjacent to AM or continue sluggin it out. My mentor (CFO at a large multinational) is pushing me more towards accounting / CPA route and comm banking (Citizens in Boston) but I don’t know if it would be conducive to the sort of learning that would allow me to make an exit later into something I’m more interested in (AM, PE, IB).

I’m at an inflection point and any thoughts you guys have to offer would be greatly appreciated.
