Strong Connection in AM

So basically I have made a really strong connection with an Associate at a top AM firm. He is pushing me to apply to his firm, giving me a referral for certain. I'm a 3.7 (hopefully 3.8 by next semester) GPA  Sophomore from a non-target. If he vouches for me, is it possible for me to get an interview? Should I be making more connections within his team? Should I ask him to give me more contacts within to talk to more recruiters and people inside the firm? I am currently interning as an equity research analyst for student-ran fund, and I will be interning in an audit position for a top accounting firm in my country this summer. I really would like to work with him and his firm, and with the strong connection I have, knowing he'd seriously vouch for me, I don't want this opportunity to go to waste. Recruitment doesn't start until Winter.

You’d still have to go through the interview process. Him referring you might just expedite the process. It also depends on the firm. If it’s a large organisation it’s highly unlikely the associate will have any say as recruiting is generally very structured.

Which asset class is this? What are your aspirations? I think once you figure this out it will naturally show during the interview.
