First Round Case Interviews with McKinsey and Bain
Hey guys,
I am a senior at a Public University which I think is a target and I have just found out that I got a first round at McKinsey and another at Bain and another at Accenture. I have recently started practicing cases - maybe 10 in total - and I am really awful at them. Any tips on how to prepare in less than a week for these interviews?
I get super nervous and struggle with math - I am quite slow and tend to get lost in the details. I am being very honest here. Literally need any help I can get. I just want to stand out and do well.

With so little time, you need all the practice you can get. It's the only way you'll get over the nerves.
Try to practice with people in your school that already have consulting offers; their feedback is going to be the most useful.
If I were you, I'd look into working with former consultants. There are companies that offer customized case prep that can quickly determine your development areas and target these effectively. They will have the schedule flexibility, knowledge of consulting, and coaching experience to enhance your skills in a short period of time. Check out companies like wx3 consulting interview Coach (dot) com or ManagementConsulted.
A secondary option would be to work with classmates with consulting offers, though these folks won't necessarily have sufficient time and materials to address your needs in less than 7 days... Good luck!
Why on every post you try to sell that people should pay for case interview preparation with these sites? Further there is one site that you always mention. Your posts really look like disguises ads. If you could stop...
I firmly believe that there are plenty of paid services out there that folks should consider that are more effective than paying for a book like Case in Point or watching videos. Live interview prep is the key. So, like I said above, classmates / paid coaches are options available. Rep it out, treat each mock experience like its the real-deal, and I'm sure you'll be in a good position come interview day!

When did Bain let you know it was a no go? It's been a week now and I haven't heard back.

They called me the night after the interview. I missed the call and they called me back the next morning.

Can I do anything to increase my chances of getting off the waitlist? Should I email to ask what my status is and express that I'm still interested?
You cannot go wrong with asking. It is just a guess that you may be on the waitlist - I honestly have no idea of how you can know for certain.
I would just draft a quick follow up email to the recruiter, thanking them for the opportunity to interview and what the timeline for next steps would be. From there it is a waiting game. You do not want to be viewed as too pushy.
