McKinsey Solutions Internship to Full-Time Generalist

Hey all, I recently landed a pretty cool internship at McK as a (jr.) solutions delivery analyst. It seems really interesting, and they have stated interest in keeping a number of interns on full-time post-undergraduate studies.

As a naïve college student however, I would ideally want to break into their generalist consulting practice. I figure at the very least I can do a significant amount of networking during my internship to get referrals, but I was wondering if anyone has insight as to how to maximize chances of receiving an offer in their strategy consulting track (I would imagine I still have to apply along the same timeline as everyone else), while keeping the potential for full time as an SDA on the table.

For a bit more context, I'm a Junior at a T50 non-target with an 3.81 GPA and another 6 month internship under my belt.

Cheers!

It's going to be a bit of a challenge, you probably need strong partner support on whatever you get staffed on. I would probably work really hard and do really well on project work then halfway thru the internship talk openly with the partner saying you would like to return full time as a generalist and would appreciate their support. If they seem to be pretty supportive, I would then talk to professional development and tell them you are hoping to make the switch with partner support, ask what you need to get there, etc.

The flipside is you could also try to leverage your McK experience to recruit into generalist roles at Bain and BCG
