McKinsey Solve game

I have this invitation from McKinsey to do this game as a first step in the process. I never practiced this game before but thankfully I have 2 weeks to submit.

For those who passed, would genuinely appreciate some tips and advice on how to pass. Any (affordable) practice material out there?

Thanks in advance.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and advice for preparing for the McKinsey Solve game:

  1. Practice with Case Books:

    • Look for PDF case books from MBA programs or business schools. These often contain practice cases that can help you get familiar with the type of thinking required.
    • You can find these by searching for the name of the business school followed by "Case Book" online.
  2. Self-Practice vs. Live Practice:

    • It's important to do both self-practice and live practice. Self-practice helps you understand the basics, while live practice simulates real-time problem-solving and decision-making.
  3. Strategy and Approach:

    • Develop a clear strategy and approach to tackling the game. This is similar to preparing for standardized tests like the SAT or GMAT. Understand the types of problems you will face and how to approach them methodically.
  4. Affordable Practice Materials:

    • While specific affordable practice materials for the McKinsey Solve game are not mentioned, using general case practice materials from business schools can be a good start. These materials are often available for free online.
  5. General Tips:

    • Focus on understanding the basic principles of problem-solving and decision-making.
    • Practice consistently over the two weeks to build confidence and improve your skills.

If you need more detailed advice or specific resources, you might find additional insights by exploring relevant threads on WSO or other forums dedicated to consulting preparation.

I'm sorry, but it looks like this may be out of my ability to answer... maybe some of the links below might help?

Hard to practice for I'm afraid.

I quite enjoyed it because I played a bit of strategy-type computer games when I was younger. If you are familiar with those it is somewhat similar with a bit more math/number intuition needed

Called an EM and he said it depends on the office. He says in my office it’s 99% not automated and said that consultants review CVs immediately as submitted. He said it depends for other offices.

I’ve also heard from my friend in a DACH office that all applicants who get the test will also get an interview as well and performance on the test + interview will be assessed jointly. I think if true this is specific to DACH offices because they recruit differently on a “fellowship programme” as opposed to regular BA/Assoc.
