CFA Level 1

I am currently a senior and I expect to join an investment bank (recruited FT) that is never discussed on this site.

All my prior internship experience has been in credit and I would like to work in the public fixed income world.

I want to complete the CFA exam by the end of my first year as an analyst and complete level 1 by the time I graduate. What is the best resource (paid and unpaid) to do so? I am seeing mixed opinions online.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some recommended resources for preparing for the CFA Level 1 exam:

Paid Resources:

  1. Schweser Practice Tests:

    • You can buy two books of Schweser practice tests, which provide six practice tests in total. This is a popular choice among candidates for its comprehensive coverage and realistic exam simulation.
  2. Fitch Learning or The Economist:

    • These providers are mentioned as potential options for structured learning and keeping you engaged during the study period. They offer various packages that include study materials, practice questions, and mock exams.

Unpaid Resources:

  1. Flashcards:

    • Create your own flashcards for every equation, list, and defined term. This method is highly recommended for on-the-go revision and reinforcing key concepts.
  2. CFA Institute Practice Exam:

    • The CFA Institute provides a practice exam, which is an excellent resource to simulate the exam day experience. Make sure to utilize this to gauge your readiness and identify areas for improvement.

Study Tips:

  • Consistent Study Schedule:

    • Plan your study schedule well in advance and stick to it. Avoid making heroic assumptions about how much material you can cover daily to prevent falling behind.
  • Focus on Weak Areas:

    • Identify and focus on your weak areas by breaking down the exam topics. Use flashcards and practice tests to reinforce these areas.
  • Utilize Downtime:

    • Use any spare moments, such as commuting or waiting, to go through flashcards or review notes.

By combining these resources and strategies, you can effectively prepare for the CFA Level 1 exam and achieve your goal of completing it by the time you graduate. Good luck!
