Met him before. Tall Chinese guy - intense about investing, big cynic of sell-side research, and really funny, not surprised he grew this big as influencer (won't be surprised if he does stand-up in the future).

Maybe it's fate the buy-side didn't work out for him so he could find his true calling (not sure if he feels the same way.)

I found his LinkedIn profile. He spent 2 years as a sell-side associate after completing his MBA, followed by 1.5 years as an analyst at a start-up hedge fund.

I've listened to a lot of his videos and really appreciate his insights. He seems to be an excellent analyst: in terms of his passion, hard work, analytical skills, systems, and processes. He's well-connected and has strong mentors. Also, funny and likeable as someone mentioned above.

My question is: What does it take to succeed in this field? It seems his career as an analyst wasn't particularly successful—he ended up at a small start-up hedge fund that he didn’t enjoy working for. Eventually, he decided not to pursue a longer career in the industry and explored an FP&A route. If someone with his qualifications and skills couldn't succeed as an analyst, who can?

He’s a fine creator but nothing special so frankly trajectory makes sense. If you read his “deep dives” and know anything about the firms / strategies he analyzes, you’ll quickly realize most of the content isn’t super insightful, nuanced, or sometimes even fully accurate.
