I wanna know what your pen is

Ok, I just changed firms (BB) and am getting some serious pen envy. I wanna know everyones opinions on fine pens. I'm 25 and don't want to look like a DB but want to be stylish(which counts in Hong Kong).

I have been looking at Montblanc pens but want to know if there are any other "reputable" brands. You know, something that when you wip it out the guy standing next to you sneaks a peek and thinks, "that guys got a nice pen".

Pix would be nice, but keep it tasteful pls

No homo?

Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark!

Does anyone actually use fountain pens? Or are they probably something I should avoid?

Wow, this thread could have gone in so many directions. OP, are you serious? The title of this thread is "I wanna know what your pen is? Big, Bk, fully loaded, and always in use inking everywhere.

I've lost too many and my father gave a nice MonteBlanc that I never use because I would probably lose it. My Gd we'll we comparing secutity badge holders next.

If you don't know several pen brands since your early childhood, you should just keep using that pen you got from the used cars shop. You really sound like a new rich with that kind of questions. DON'T stick with the bic ... (unless you 're used to handle a waterman or montblanc pen, you will have some trouble getting used to them. I stopped trying at 9 yo)

Alex Trebek: Yeah, it was a trick question, Mr. Connery. Why don't you pick a category? Sean Connery: I've got to ask you about the Penis Mightier. Alex Trebek: What? No. No, no, that is The Pen is Mightier. Sean Connery: Gussy it up however you want, Trebek. What matters is does it work? Will it really mighty my penis, man? Alex Trebek: It's not a product, Mr. Connery. Sean Connery: Because I've ordered devices like that before - wasted a pretty penny, I don't mind telling you. And if The Penis Mightier works, I'll order a dozen. Alex Trebek: It's not a Penis Mightier, Mr. Connery. There's no such thing! Nicholas Cage: Wait, wait, wait.. are you selling Penis Mightiers? Alex Trebek: No! No, I'm not. Sean Connery: Well, you're sitting on a gold mine, Trebek!

Ah yes, well, in this case the pen is mightier I suppose.

In all seriousness, unless I'm signing things that I write at home, I will stick to using a Bic Pro+ pen. When I actually need to sign things, I break out my Limited Edition Simpsons Pen by ACME depicting Homer's Scream

If this wasn't meant to be a penis joke from the beginning, the OP is fucking weird.

Why can't threads be entertaining and informative?

I've used pens from a very young age in school so I can help out with some advice, if you're serious about getting a nice pen. First off, I'm assuming you'll just want to get a roller ball pen, not a fountain pen. Why? If you haven't used a fountain pen before it's going to take a lot of getting used to and it's going to be difficult to make it write the way you want to at first. I've used a fountain pen for a really long time to (believe it or not) correct my handwriting because it was so ineligible back when I used BICs and pencils.

Mont Blanc is a really nice recognizable brand, where the craftsmanship beats the actual writing part most people would say. It would also set you back a couple $$$ so be careful, there are many options to choose from. I have a few basic Mont Blanc pens(both fountain and roller ball) and find them quite easy and neat to write with. You can usually choose the size of the pen nib (for the fountain pen) and the size of the roller ball for the regular pen. I have a Starwalker set (http://www.montblanc.com/113.php), and you will generally find that people that know of the brand or the Mont Blanc star will compliment you on it, everyone else might just say "Oh, that's a nice pen" and that's it.

Other names dropped on here are good as well and probably slightly better purely-used-for-writing instruments: Waterman, Montegrappa, Lamy, Pelikan etc. I'd start out with a basic roller ball pen and then see if you wanna try something else. Hope this helps. Remember, good hand writing is the mark of an organized mind, or so I've heard...

Well if it's not a joke this thread then you should just go for a Mont Blanc as you can't really go wrong, go to the store in Central - not the one inside the IFC II - the one in the really large mall, they are nice there and have good prices. Just have a look around, find the one you like the look of the most and try it out - have a think before you go which style you want, a ballpoint will probably be the most useful, but fountain pens and rollerballs are much better suited if you just plan to carry it around and use for signing docs, etc.

I picked up a Carbon & Steel model from there last time I was in HK, was about 15% cheaper than here in the UK and I really loved the style so had to go for it!

Zebra F-301 Ballpoint. It's clean, balanced, durable, and presents itself in an austere manner that displays the mind of a calculated killer. It's awesome.

Smith & Wesson Military and Police Tactical Pen, made of anodized aircraft aluminum, the tip is hard enough to fracture a skull or do serious damage to blood vessels if you ever have to defend yourself in an area designated as a "gun free" zone. Much less conspicuous than the old trick of having a sword in a cane or a projectile in an umbrella.

Faber Castell, Montegrappa, Pelikan, S.T. Dupont, Mont Blanc. Faber Castell pens may not look as artistically well crafted as Mont Blancs, but definitely write better

I'm not on Wall Street yet so this may not be IB approved, but instead of buying more expensive, I prefer unique and better. I use a Fisher Space Pen. Nothing cooler or nerdier than a pen developed for the Apollo mission. It can write under water or in space and more practically it will write horizontal against a wall and won't leak from pressure changes in an airplane. It makes a great conversation piece, especially if you like tech.

I have a Dunhill Sentryman and it is awesome, everyone is in love with it and always steals it to do dummy signatures (I leave it in its cushion in front of my computer everyday). I've had it for 5+ years and it still looks brand new through daily use since I first bought it at work. I thoroughly recommend it, it's very classy and not tacky in the slightest (some Montgrappa pens can across as such, and Montblanc is too common sorry, but everyone in China seems to either have one or a fake just imho).

Lastly, Faber Castell does a fabulous range of super stylish and awesome pens - it's either under the Faber Castell range or Castell). A good pen should be in the $400 + range but that's only if you really are happy to spend that sort of money on it.

Ballpoint and office bulk. Pilot very smooth ink. I love rollerballs since it's more pleasing and flows much better than the ballpoints. Fountains are good but I always seem to run out of ink at the most crucial points.

For rollerballs I recommend Montblanc, Mitsubishi, Parker, and Caran D'Ache. Pencils must be Mitsubishi, yellow Staedlers or Maped 2B ones.

There is cheap fountains ranging from Faber Castell > Parker > Caran D'Ache/MBlanc if you are looking to be old school. I must also say if you really want to ball out.
Get those Japanese wooden resin handcrafted ones if you really wanna ball.
