Private Banking Analyst Attire?

What are analysts expected to wear on a daily basis in PB? Obviously if you are in front of clients you would be in a suit but are the entry-level positions also suiting up each day? Question mainly for the New York offices. Thanks.

Suit up every day the first week. Take it from there.

I'm a first year analyst in PB at a BB in Chicago, and it's full suit/tie every day. Clients get walked through our floor from time to time, so everyone is expected to be business formal at all times. I know at my company that applies to NYC as well. I interned in St. Louis and even there it was the same way. You kinda get used to it eventually.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

This kind of question gets asked by people who are nervous / excited about their new jobs. First of all, congrats on the job. Second of all, you already know the answer to this question. Suit up on the first day and then adjust your attire based on what you see other people - especially junior people - wearing. Bada bing bam boom.

Remember, once you're inside you're on your own. Oh, you mean I can't count on you? No. Good!

What do you guys that are in private banking think of the industry? I think the as people age and retire its only going to get better as a industry to be in but I have no idea.

I'm a first year analyst in PB at a BB, and I enjoy the industry much more than I thought I would. It's interesting, challenging, and you learn a lot. Plus banks are starting to put more of an emphasis on it, and it's really interesting to be new to PB right as banks are putting more and more resources into building it up. Bllomberg had an interesting article on this a few weeks ago:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-12-04/banks-discover-money-managemen…-trading-declines.html

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

D. Bush - You are such a loser. I come on this forum every once in a while for decent professional advice, but your constant posts about materialism lead me to believe you are the most insecure fuck who has ever lived. Go to therapy ASAP.

if you dont like me or my posts then dont waste your time responding. people ask these questions all the time. it is IB relevant. If you feel my adivce is inaccurate than indicate so. If not, then shut the fuck up and sit quietly in the corner- child.

You guys are real mature. Real first class acts. Elegant gentlemen you are. I wish I was you. I wish I was like wasting time and flashbang. I wish I was 17 again. A 17 year old loser behind a pc screen hoping one day to be an investment banker. I don

Hahahaha.

Actually, you wish you were like the other 2000 analysts working in IB who find better ways to spend their time than posting on a message board. Talking to their colleagues for example.

You know, so you're not some 23 year old loser who spends the vast majority of his day on a message board posting about what kind of cufflinks he wears.

The kind of person who no one wants to talk to.

To each his own, indeed.

Speaking from experience, when you are work 350 days a year for an average of 15 hours per day, taking an hour a day to chat on a message board is not all that bad. Others will chat with the monkeys in the next cube, some get on ventrillo, others go sownstairs and smoke. Most of the best analysts when I was in banking would have some distraction going to keep them sane.

monopolisf has it right. as an analyst you need to strike a balance. you have to stand out, but you cant be a douche. the balance you strike has two parts. dress and attitude. when you dress, dont wear brooks and "fit in," but at the same time, dont wear purple shirts and guido yourself out. with regards to arritude, dont be a submissive fuck, but dont be overly assertive, for you are a monkey. anybody in college with a brain can do your job. Balance it out.

well dan, if you want a private "conversation" you can use the pm feature, so for now you are stuck having to listen to my opinion.

and you talk about needing a balance between standing out and not being a douche...well I hate to break your bubble but I think you crossed over into the douche category.

I personally don't have a problem with you, I know your type, but numerous other people do

Dan Bush:
Well, any comments posted should be on-point. Let us try to keep the conversation structured. You and your pals are some discursive individuals.

You should take some of your own advice and stop trying to hit on every female that posts on this board (Mis Ind, for example). The government should consider creating an e-restraining order for people like you.

Before you vehemently deny this claim, look through some of your past posts.

Monopolisf:
I need some new suits. $2,100 a pop for Zegna at Neiman Marcus is killing me. My ex girlfriend lives in NYC and I visit her all the time (what can I say...she still loves me 8) )...any ideas for bespoke in NYC for $2K per suit?

Thanks.

Sam

zegna is rubbish...rubbish cut, rubbish couture...only morons who know nothing about couture buy zegna and armani and the rest of that shit (boss as well is rubbish) for 2K, if you're smart you can get 2 suits both 2 X better than zegna...thats 4X times the suits... look for smaller couturiers, go to little italy...i dont know...but not zegna, and not @ 2000$..their suits are worth 600-700 at best

I'm a tall thin guy so they fit well and I think they are a great look...they just aren't that agressive...more "elegant."

One of the reasons I like Canali is because the shoulder construction seems to exude,

"If you don't stop looking at me, I may proceed to end your life in a timely and highly efficient manner. Furthermore, I may also decide to end the life of your loved ones as well as your pets."

I'm still trying to fathom why the hell anyone would spend $2k on ONE suit. It seems excessive, even for an MD.

"We are lawyers! We sue people! Occasionally, we get aggressive and garnish wages, but WE DO NOT ABDUCT!" -Boston Legal-

By the time you become a senior MD you are a walking corpse. $2K on ONE suit is nothing when you have a limited amount of time left to spend your millions. Hell, slapping $2K on the ass of a stripper in one night is nothing.

Your job sucks. You've traded the best years of your life away to "live the dream." By the time you become an MD...the most significant facets of your world are a)what is the thread count of my suit, and b)why the fuck do my unbreakable mother of pearl shirt buttons keep cracking.

dan you need to shut the fuck up.

your endless posts on bespoke, brioni, rolex, etc are fucking worthless.

yes, you make all the wannabe bankers have wet dreams dreaming of 2k suits from brands they have never heard before. congratulations.

but you also sound like an absolute assmonkey to bankers.

hey man, if you dont like me, dont talk to me. plain and simple. i question your assertion that my posts are worthless. it seems as though my posts recieve the most attention. Sometimes people need to venture out of the endless game of "how to i get a job" or "how do i interview." i enjoy speaking of the social aspects of IB. Now fuck off douche bag.

yes, we all enjoy the social aspects of banking...we get it, its nice to have money. you aren't the only one with it.

i agree, its interesting to know what other bankers where, if they rock cufflinks etc, but don't be so fucking condescending about it. don't go posting that BB is shit and only T&A and bespoke are for bankers. you sound like an arrogant cunt.

a superficial dbag like yourself wouldn't last a day in my bank.

Dan Bush:
That's great. I will take it upon myself and assume that people in "your bank" know how to spell wear, as opposed to, say, "where" -fucking idiot.

HAHAHAHAHA. Dan Bush just commented on someone's spelling!! OH MY GOD, this is comedy at its finest!! Dan, perhaps you should learn the difference between "woman" and "women" before doing shit like that.

Say, can you spell hypocrite?

Dan,

Yes, I am still around. I just pop in occasionally to remind you of your status as the forum douchebag.

Luckily for you, yesterday happened to be one of those times, when you started making fun of others' spelling, when you can't even spell "know". I don't know how you got into Yale, but that definitely explains the 3.2 GPA.

What it doesn't explain, however, is how you got into a BB, since all the BBs that recruit at my school (yes, Ivy) require a 3.5.

Either way, the way I see it, no one at your bank likes working with you much, so you are usually stuck on here giving us the play-by-play on how you bought your latest pair of cuff-links.

No one gives a shit about any of your topics. The majority of the replies to your threads are insults directed at you. Please, do us all a favor and go away.

Hey IFlash, bang, dudes, That 3.2 gpa got me into Yale and Columbia Law. Hahaha, fuckinh idiot. Tell me jeeves, have you ever taken Orgo, real analysis, axiomatic chem, or maybe Mech. phy III? Prolly not. -Sociology major, math and physics minor. Save your judgements for people you know. God I love how you keep stepping into it. Message board big guy. How I love technology.

Dan,

None of what you say is true, and no one believes you. Hell, no one even believes that you work in a BB because you are such an annoying fuck. Like you said.. it is a message board. How about this:

I was accepted into Harvard Law when I was 14 years old. Prove me wrong. In fact, I am Henry Kravis' bastard child, and am set to take over KKR as soon has he dies. I study "axioimatic chem" for fun in my spare time.

So anyway, I'm just saying you probably should have taken some basic english and writing classes along with "Orgo, real analysis, axiomatic chem, or maybe Mech. phy III".

You might be smart, you might be retarded. One thing is for sure though: You are a douchebag.

Dan Bush:
You are the most discursive human out there. I guess you are the spelling police. You may want to think over your desire for IB. I would say you have a bright future ahead of you in elementary education.

Yes, because proper spelling is really frowned upon in IB. They just HATE it when people catch a spelling mistake.

Speaking of which.. what do you make of this?

Dan Bush:
That's great. I will take it upon myself and assume that people in "your bank" know how to spell wear, as opposed to, say, "where" -fucking idiot.

You're right, i'm not in IBD. I am a worthless fuck who attends RCSWU who happends to be 6 feet 100 lbs. Go jack off onto your computer screen and stop harrassing me. Crabcakes and football, that's what Maryland does.

Are Savile Row tailors considered to be better than anything in New York?

In London people go to Savile Row for suits, and to Jermyn Street for shirts.

it depends on the savile tailor. Huntsman is the best suit you can buy anywhere. Longsdail in NY is quite nice. Diminishing marginal satisfaction is a major influence in suits. bespoke is so nice, it gets to a point where the only thing that distinguishes the best from excellent is the brand.

You're Thai, BigDutch? Cool if so; most Asian ibankers I've met are are of Japanese, Korean, or Chinese ancestry.

Maybe he's just a Muay Thai enthusiast. Given the intensity of flames on this forum, he'd probably have been more vulgar had he been trying to make fun of Thai culture.
