Examining a family office

Recently networked with a southern family office that i had a connection with for an internship. It fell through but I may come back to them again in the following summer. Dont know yet really. Went through their 13F and it was a broad selection of the market. Coverage of many sectors. As it was stated they currently have 2-3B AUM. Was shocked when i found this out honestly. A pretty much unknown fund in a town that you would never guess. Their team was small (like most family offices im assuming) at around 10 or less managers only some of them senior. This led to a growing curiosity regarding how much the senior managers are making each year. Assuming 2.5 billion a 1% fee would total 25 million divvied up by 5 managers is a very healthy 5mil (4.5 fuck taxes) yearly. Anyone with knowledge in the industry, is this normal for a FO?

You would be surprised at what family office CIOs can get away with. There are people out there you've never heard of running billions for people you've never heard of, despite having 20% of the skill and effort of an average MM pod PM. Their main skill is maintaining the relationship.

There are also really good family office CIOs who are good long term investors. You'd enjoy great quality of life and intellectual stimulation even as an analyst at such places.
