HF Investor Relations

I don't think I've seen a post on here yet about investor relations. Has anybody had any experiences the field at a hedge fund in the US or UK?

What does work life balance, comp, career progression typically look like and how does it compare to other roles in the buy and sell side? This might be unlikely but has anybody done corporate IR then moved to IR at a HF (or vice versa)? How did you find the change?

I spent the morning stalking randoms on LinkedIn to find out what they did after their first IR roles (hint: more IR). This was not a big surprise, but I was curious to see if it is possible to apply the IR skill set in different roles.

(If I'm asking this in the wrong place please redirect me lol) Edit: clarity

Intern in S&T - FI, hey, look at the bright side, at least you didn't get a ton of monkey shit thrown at you...here is my best guess on threads that might be helpful:

  • HF -> Investor Relations
  • HF and PE Investor Relations Comp
  • Investor Relations - PE/HF
  • Investor Relations
  • Investor Relations at Megafund
  • Investor Relations
  • Investor Relations vs S&T

More suggestions...

So far my experience has been better work/life balance but lower comp. I don’t have a finance-related degree (my excel and data analysis skills are what got me in the door) so assuming you have a hand in the reporting then it’s a great way to get exposure as to how things are calculated, what’s important to investors/other funds/regulators, stuff like that. You generally will work closely with sales and strategy teams so my guess is that will be a good exit opp (I’ve been in finance for 4 years now but only at my HF for 2 so not totally sure about this part).

Thank you for getting back to me this is super helpful. Can I ask how many hours you typically work per week and what your comp looks like in terms of base + bonus (if any)?
