How to Pivot into HF? – ER Intern at Top Brazilian AM

I’m currently an equity research intern at one of the top asset managers in Brazil. CFA Level 1 passed. Graduating undergrad in economics in 2026.

I want to break into a top multi-strat HF (Citadel, Millennium, D.E. Shaw, etc.)., and my plan is to try to lateral into a BB (JPM / GS / MS) before graduation, then later pursue an MBA or Master’s in Finance.

My main question is, which BB division would give me the best shot at getting into a multi-strat HF down the line?

  • Investment Banking
  • Sales & Trading
  • Equity Research

Also open to any advice on how to improve this path or other routes I might be overlooking. Appreciate any insights, tks guys.

Unfortunately we don't have hedge funds structure in Brazil, that's why I'm focusing on moving to NY as soon as I can with the correct background

Considering that, have any tips?
