List of HFs that recruit from undergrad (FT and interns)
Not gonna include the big MMs, this is strictly SMs. A few I've seen from linkedin/recruiting posts for FT and intern offers:
Baupost, Skye Global, Maverick, Cat Rock, Matrix, Eminence, Samlyn, Light Street, Silver Point, Scopia, Whale Rock, Abdiel
Not saying any of these have structured internship programs, but they have at least taken a few interns in the past. Anyone know of any others (for FT or internship)? Preferably keep it to L/S, event driven/distressed, and like $2bn+ pls. Much appreciated!!
I think Oak Hill Advisors. Also Knight Capital or something like that. Started by Tom Wagner I think. Distressed fund. Also Samlyn Capital comes to mind
I see you already included Samlyn
Ben Matan Biran being useful, thanks!! Knighthead capital yep. Know of any other L/S funds?
DE Shaw L/S might also
Can definitely say that Oak Hill does and know some people who work at DE Shaw L/S.
Ah also Force Capital Management and maybe Stone House Capital Management too. I think there is another HF that a friend of mine worked out after UG. Blanking on name right now but was like a Tiger Grand Cub. Also potentially the hedge fund Bloom Tree
Apollo’s hedge funds of credit may also

I know some williams guys who've gone to matrix in the past
Cool Story
I know several Harvard kids (undergrad) they gave offers to as well.

So you guys just gonna keep this whole conversation to yourselves?
Are you just asking about Long/Short equity HFs?
Yeah basically
I think you're looking at the wrong type of hedge funds then - most L/S equity HFs operate like PE firms where prior IB/finance experience is necassary. Better to look at quant-based firms if you have the skillset because they will recruit out of undergrad.
Should probably consider Marshall Wace too. Think they hire from college and their style is more similar to an SM than the platforms.
How many people has Baupost hired out of undergrad in the past decade?
I talked to one of their recruiters last year who told me they don’t hire undergrads in investing roles. That’s not to say it hasn’t happened - it’s probably happened in the past once or twice - but most people who start FT there are working in BO/MO functions.
IF they HAVE hired anyone in investing roles out of undergrad, it’s likely been less than 3 over the past decade. And with that, they would’ve probably been absolutely stellar outliers.
For reference so someone doesn’t say “YoU pRObAbLY JuSt dIdN’T FiT thE BiLl”, I’ve got a 3.8+ GPA, good test scores, at a target, and my internships have been solid enough to keep me in the running at most places. They just genuinely don’t hire many people (if anyone) in FO roles out of UG.
I'd be shocked if they've hired anyone directly in the past decade. Most of the listed firms don't really hire.
I've heard the same thing, don't think they hire out of UG
Would you say my best bet to get to a top Tiger cub/Melvin/Whale Rock type place is to get to MFPE from undergrad & do 2 years there as an analyst? Could I get to those places from a shop like Vista, LGP, GA?
I think the best bet is top bank, top MFPE, then there. Or go straight to BX/SLP/KKR.
Know a couple Greenwich funds take interns... Wexford, hear they're having a great year
Which funds in Greenwich specifically? Grew up here
