Maverick or Equity Research?

Welp, just saw Maverick is down almost 30% for 2022. Should I reconsider my offer there? I can have an offer through a connection at a smaller but well-regarded equity research shop (think Wolfe-type). I'm unsure of the exact analyst/group, but it would likely be related to tech, so I'm not too worried about the prestige there.

HF is my end goal, but I don't see how the economics would work out for a firm that's down more than 10-15% over the next few years. Also, assuming they now have spectacular years to overcome that HWM. I'm sure it'd still be a good learning experience, but the reputation isn't the same anymore, so I'm unsure if I should just do SS ER and try to find a better HF role after a couple of years.

If you're early in your career, and they give you a choice between a great mentor or higher pay, take the mentor every time, it's not even close. And don't even think about leaving that mentor until your learning curve peaks. - Stanley Druckenmiller

And you are telling us you want to pick some JPM analyst over Lee Ainslie or his lieutenants?

Buy-side is buy-side. Sell-side is NOT buy-side.

Are you telling me LPs like allocating capital towards receiving 30% annual losses??
