Maverick or Equity Research?
Welp, just saw Maverick is down almost 30% for 2022. Should I reconsider my offer there? I can have an offer through a connection at a smaller but well-regarded equity research shop (think Wolfe-type). I'm unsure of the exact analyst/group, but it would likely be related to tech, so I'm not too worried about the prestige there.
HF is my end goal, but I don't see how the economics would work out for a firm that's down more than 10-15% over the next few years. Also, assuming they now have spectacular years to overcome that HWM. I'm sure it'd still be a good learning experience, but the reputation isn't the same anymore, so I'm unsure if I should just do SS ER and try to find a better HF role after a couple of years.
This is a not question. Maverick is a top brand that will get you very far whether or not you stay and move up
You could go from Maverick to SS ER any time... I would just join and jump ship if it goes South.
Is it really that easy to get a job in ER after such a short stint on the buyside? Worried that no firm would want to hire someone with that little experience
How short are you thinking? I can't see maverick going down in like a year or even longer. If they go down then we'll probably have bigger fish to fry cos similar funds will also probably bite the dust.
And you are telling us you want to pick some JPM analyst over Lee Ainslie or his lieutenants?
Buy-side is buy-side. Sell-side is NOT buy-side.
Are you telling me LPs like allocating capital towards receiving 30% annual losses??

Please take this down. Ppl will identify you easily
Take Maverick and delete this post before it gets you in trouble, cheers!
