REPE to Real Estate HF
Hey all, have a career question. I'm graduating from a target school and am going to be starting work at as an acquisitions analyst PERE 30 (a.k.a. one of the larger real estate private equity funds) in the US and am interested in eventually making my way to a hedge fund's real estate team.
This is a bit of a revelation for me since I've sort of realized I'm more comfortable in the data and 10K's of our partners/tenants than the actual process of sourcing deals and being hands on with the asset class. I am also attracted to being more involved in the markets and a HF would help me develop my own portfolio whereas I think REPE more prepares me to invest in my own properties or REITs.
The kicker is I don't have banking experience and kind of bypassed that stage in recruiting and went right to REPE (real estate PE). Is anyone here involved in a hedge fund that has a dedicated real estate/infrastructure team and what was your path there? Can a start in REPE without banking or an MBA and some hustle eventually get me to a HF?
