Singapore quant TC trajectory

Hi all, currently mulling offers between two firms. Curious to see what your thoughts are on the career trajectory and potential upside. I am not looking to make massive amounts at once, but concerned with longevity since I enjoy being employed.

  1. Equity L/S stat arb prop trading firm. Seems to be more known for career progression and stability - some LinkedIn searching shows people mostly staying for >5 years and good exit opps to other firms in the same industry. Only issue is starting comp is on the bottom end (150-180 SGD all-in)
  2. Market maker based out of HK. General consensus is culture is crap, WLB is nonexistent, job is super stressful. But pay blows the first option out of the water by a large percentage.

My questions are

  • Which of the two would you take?
  • What are the other options like? i.e. joining a pod, one of the local HFs, etc.

At this point in your career go with the option that lets you learn the fastest.
In the grand scheme of things your current comp is irrelevant, pick the firm that's best to work at and where people are genuinely interested in your growth.
