Sexiest behaviour towards female investment professionals

Hi,

I am a female investment professional working on the buy side, primarily investing in funds. Given the nature of my role, I receive many LinkedIn connection requests from individuals seeking fundraising opportunities.

Recently, I received a message from a person requesting to speak only with a male colleague, which I found highly sexist. He appears to be quite active on LinkedIn, has a well-managed profile, and a significant number of followers. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and frankly quite disgusting.

I’m curious—has anyone else heard of him or encountered something similar? How would you handle this?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, encountering sexist behavior in professional settings, especially in finance, is unfortunately not uncommon. Here are some actionable steps you can consider:

  1. Document the Interaction: Keep a record of the message and any related correspondence. This can be useful if you decide to escalate the matter.

  2. Address It Professionally: If you feel comfortable, you could respond to the individual, pointing out the inappropriate nature of their request. Keep the tone professional and assertive.

  3. Leverage Internal Support: If this interaction is tied to your professional role, consider discussing it with your team or HR. They might have protocols for handling such situations.

  4. Network Strategically: As highlighted in WSO threads, networking as a woman in finance often requires extra diligence. Focus on building connections with individuals who respect your expertise and professionalism.

  5. Share Experiences: Engaging with forums like WSO or other professional networks can provide support and advice from peers who may have faced similar situations.

  6. Block and Report: If the behavior persists or escalates, use LinkedIn's tools to block and report the individual.

This kind of behavior is indeed unacceptable, and addressing it head-on while maintaining professionalism is key. Was there any reason the man might be more comfortable speaking with another man than a woman? Calling his request sexist without any evidence is a real leap. Why not ask him why a woman can’t handle the matter?

Was really hoping to read about sexiest behavior. My hopes have been crushed.

This is what I thought this thread was going to be about. Strike a pose. Lolol

Vince sold our startup ETF shop.   We had no HR.   He was a former philly cop. (yeah) they put the co-chair of women in ETFs as his boss. It would have been better if they just put Reggie into the role, but he was at Cantor that second.

" Ryan Kirlin, have you been camping"

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

You have an uncanny habit of posting comments that have nothing to do with the thread. I’m not mad. It’s just … different. lol
