My guess would be things like Art Gallery openings, charity events, political fundraisers, etc. Maybe sporting events if they've got a suite (or a friend with a suite)—it's hard to network in the bleachers while some drunk fan is spilling his nachos on you and yelling at the ump. I've heard that a lot of networking goes on among the parents at the top private schools, although personally I think that view may be a bit of imaginary "cloaks and daggers"/elite-envy.

I don't think they are really doing professional networking at scores (unless they are trying to incorporate "professionals" into their network).

I'm not sure that an "American Bankers Association" would be that helpful, because they really want to network with the heads of industry, not with each other.

Sam21, I've been to that conference, and as far as "Bankers/PE" gathering it's a joke. It's a bunch of 19 and 20 year olds who manage maybe 100k of their school's endowment. They have some pretty prominent speakers, but nobody but the conference organizers have access to them.
