Accounting -->IBD/MBB

Hey everyone!

Im an accounting major at a Canadian target (Ivey/McGill/Queens). Unfortunately, I realized a bit too late that I do not want to pursue a career in accounting. I have a 3.8 GPA and a good CV. I think I have a decent chance at obtaining an MBB/BB/EB offer based on the success of other students I know. I'm about to start a big four audit internship this summer and I'm entering my last year (graduating May 2019).

I would love any advice on how to approach the recruiting process for MBB/IB. Here are the options I'm considering.

1) Apply for the FT roles and hope for the best 2) take the fall semester off to complete a more relevant internship, apply for a summer 2019 MBB/IB internship, and hopefully earn a return offer for winter 2020

The first option is preferable as I would graduate on time. However, the second option allows me to complete one additional internship before applying for an MBB/IB internship and increases my chances of obtaining a full time offer.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

try to see if you can land something in ur firm's CF practice for either next summer or this fall if not reach out to people at both mbb and ib during your internship, shouldn't be too hard to sneak out assuming you are in toronto have a good story why you want to switch it might be tough to get big 5 and bb but a boutique is possible for FT id stay another year in school and recruit for summer internship, u should get looks since ur cv is good

Have a buddy from one of those Canadian targets that made the flip from accounting at a large Canadian company to Big 5 banking. Networking was the name of the game. Talk to all your friends at banks for the summer and get them to connect you with more senior employees. Each of the Big 5 host cocktail parties throughout the summer for prospective FT applicants, getting an invite to these through your friends can be the difference maker for getting an interview.
