Advice On Breaking Into IB From Back Office

Before I start this post I want to note that I am aware this is a very difficult process and may not be possible. I am simply looking for advice on how to best go about attempting it.

I'm currently a 1st-year analyst in a back office / middle office analyst role at a top BB. For context, I went to a T10 undergrad school and was in a business-related major. I had multiple internships and previous roles but all were related to consulting or policy research which is what I was previously interested in. I've developed a strong interest in banking over my time in this job and would be interested in being in it for the long-term. I'd also preferably want to move internally at my current bank.

Is the best course of action to set up as many coffee chats as possible and try to get an idea of any teams that would be hiring? I have a relatively substantial network from my UG program at my current firm that I'd hopefully be able to leverage. Also, would there be a difference between coverage and product groups as to how likely they would be to consider a lateral hire?

Any advice is appreciated.
