An1 in NYC should i live from home?
Hi all,
I will be an an1 at a pretty sweaty bank (smth like jeff/moe/ducera). Family owns a house that would be a 30 min commute to my office, and similar car ride for the late ubers back. Considering doing this over moving to murray hill or greenpoint or other area where the commute would be 20 minutes anyways. Has anyone whose a nyc native done their analyst stint living at home?
Obvious pro is the 2-2.5k per month I save on rent, as well as familial support and ease of living not having to worry about a lot of small things.
My main concern is social life/dating. I did my UG on the west coast and didn't keep in contact with most of my HS friends. Feel like having roommates really does wonders for your social life. I come from an asian culture so living at home post grad isn't the oddest thing, but wonder how thats perceived by girls when I'm 23/24.
Been flip- flopping on this alot recently and would love any advice or the experience of others.

assess if that's worth an extra 30k a year.
20 min more in round-trip commute is barely less time for sleep/gym
social life just hang out/pre at your friends apartment or meet up at restaraunts/bars, cockblock can go to hers
def worth extra 30k/year (almost 1/3rd of AN1 take-home)
he said he doesn't know anyone in the area. If ur at a sweatshop trust you want every other lifestyle habit (gym, sauna, etc) to be as easily accessible as possible. That 10 minute drive can make or break you staying in shape when ur already fucking exhausted
live in nyc social life is too important to miss out on in your 20s
R u from Bergen county by any chance? In the same boat and contemplating the same thing lol
Edit: nvm i saw ur an nyc native
congrats on ducera!
While your social life might lag, as an analyst, your social life is already pretty bad. Some of the analysts in my class live/lived at home, and they seemed to be fine with it -- one saved almost 100k in his first year. Also, depending on your financial situation, that 30k you'll save could be a nice cushion if you wanted to move out after a year or two ( or pay off student loans, save/invest etc,).
Do have to agree with the others here, though, it's not worth sacrificing your social life if that's something you truly value. Plus, a girl won't go home with you if you live at home... Even if you tell her you're an Investment Banker...
