Anyone here have Tinnitus?
23 M non traditional who graduates in December 2023. Developed tinnitus in both ears this January and I would say it’s manageable when I’m currently working at my internship job right now, but pretty bad when it’s silent or I am trying to sleep. Been a lifelong dream of mine to become an investment banker and am at Stage 2 out of Stage 3 for my interviews at a investment bank and hope to make it and get an offer on super day. I was just curious to see if anyone here has tinnitus and are still able to work in investment banking and live their life normally. How do you deal with it and the stresses that come with the job?
I don't have it, but curious. How do you think you got it?
No idea. Had meniscus surgery November and started developing headaches in December and then heard a loud screech in my right ear and then left in January. Headaches stop though after the ringing. Can’t really do anything about it except ignore it.
I have it in one ear. You get used to it over time. Doesn’t bother me as much as it used to and the office tends to be pretty busy so you don’t hear it as much.
I find that white noise helps when going to bed - set one of those machines next to your night table and it should help drone out the noise.
Yep that’s what I usually do to help me sleep. Glad to hear your still working and coping well I assume.
I have it, it just started one day randomly a few years ago in my right ear. Admittedly, had a bad habit of listening to music at loud levels, so I cut back a lot and it’s started to become more faint. Perfect hearing though.
I’ve had it for 3-4 years roughly. I just got used to it, think about it maybe 1-2 times per week.
Only difference I’ve made since is that I always listen to a podcast when falling asleep. Doesn’t affect my professional life / personal life at all
I’ve had it for a couple years but you just get used to it and stop thinking about it. Got my hearing tested to be safe and it was perfectly fine, except the super quiet noises I had to focus hard to hear cause of the ringing, but doctor said some people can’t even normally hear some of those.
At the end of the day there’s a hundred health conditions I’d rather not have over tinnitus.
I have tinnitus and another pulsatile tinnitus and it's been okay.
when the tinnitus gets loud at night, play the rain app (you can download this or just get it on youtube). basically you need white noise and you'll be fine.
have had tinnitus since I was 17 and I'm 21 now. you get really used to it but I wouldn't say it goes away its more like you just treat that sound as the norm. the only times I feel a bit bothered are when I am wearing earphones and no sound is playing but other than that dont worry about it it'll get better
I’ve had it for over one month now, it was just after having fever/cough. I will definitely have it checked as it might be due to an infection or sth
You need to mentally train yourself to accept it and you will forget about it eventually. I've had it for years, pretty loud at times, but it's only noticeably rarely now. Any background noise is helpful. Mine gets worse when my ears are clogged too.
My theory is you have always had it but now it’s perceptible. You need to go about your day, key busy, and the loudness of it will decrease and fade back to where it used to be at a very silent level. Think of a computer, it’s always making sounds right. Well your brain is one big computer with electrical output so it would make sense in nature for your head to produce a noise. Just it was not really noticeable before so you have to get back to that point. It’s kind of like how you can see your nose, but the brain has tricked you into not seeing it anymore. Just don’t stress and you will be fine. Nothing more important than your health. Also stay away from loud loud music near your ears. Don’t use AirPods too much. God didn’t create your ears to have AirPods being stuck in them and blasting music so close to your eardrum. Just be smart, stress free, eat healthy workout and the sound will go down in volume and back to normal base line as if you never heard of it.
Got it around 5 years ago. Been in the same boat as you - it worsens with stress and when I'm trying to sleep. Very distressing when I think about it but I'm in PE now and been working fine. You'll get used to it like others said. Try to meditate/ listen to white noise, helps a lot
