Applying Analyst Position - Question

Im looking at dramatically expanding my job search - why not right? I just have a few questions.

When looking at job postings, specifically requirements, are these set in stone? Let me give you an example from a boutique I found in CA.

"- 1-2 years of experience at an established investment bank. - Degree from a top-tier school. "

This is an analyst position first of all, so im confused why they are expecting 1-2 years of experience.. Anyways, I don't go to a target school, and I don't have experience - most analyst job postings look like this.

What I DO have is a 3.8 gpa, basic DCF modeling experience, im an athlete, and a stud... should I apply anyway or are they going to toss my resume to the shitter.

thanks!

i remember reading somewhere a while back that a lot of times, under experience they mean that school would also count. so like for example, 3 years of finance experience- having a UG degree where you studied finance for 3 years would count....or something along those lines.

From my experience though, this whole thing has been killing me so far. Like if every place only wants ppl w/ experience, then how do u get experience in the first place? i dont get it
