Applying for Equity Research Position

Hi

I heard that applying for an Equity Research position (fresh out of undergrad) at a BB, they will ask for writing samples. Writing samples for analysis of stocks. Is that true? Or is it just interviews with questions regarding of stocks. Or it is mainly MM or botique firms that will do this?

What do you prepare for an interview for an equity research position? Prepare an analysis on the stock and industry you like? How is the BB interview like for an equity reseach position? Also, I heard that BB do not recruit as many equity research positions compared with IBD or S&T. And most equity resarch positions are in NYC. They dont recruit many in areas such as SF or Chicago. Is that true? Please give me some advice. Thanks.

I wasn't asked to bring or submit any writing samples. Do be sure to have plenty of stock/industry picks and research done. Know the company and industry inside out, but more importantly, know how to intelligently talk about it. You don't need to know or use alot of jargon, but be able to use technical terms as well as plain language.

Besides that, they just look for ability to spend most of time reading and writing stuff, and interest in the markets.

Not sure about the number or location of positions issue.
