Background Check Help

Hi guys. Got accepted into an investment bank for summer internship and they are doing the background check now. For one of the internships that I put on my resume, I got fired by my employer. It is an extremely small PE firm, pretty sure the founder is the only worker in the company.

Should I be honest with the background check and let them know that I was dismissed? Or can I dodge this and say that the internship ends normally? What is the consequence of being honest and also not honest?

Just to provide more details, the intership was unpaid and I have the offer letter. Is it okay for me to not put any contact info, and will HR actually reach out to my employer?

Just fyi for actual processes and jobs I'd err on the side of being honest and mentioning it even if you word it a certain way.

Know someone who got hired, had lied about getting fired from a past job and was literally let go at a major firm after he was working there a few months lol. How embarrassing and literally ruins your career. Now when I think about him all I think about is him getting fired from this job and not being honest.

the form that we are required to fill out states that they will compare what I've filled into the form to my CV. and if there is any discrepancy then they are going to contact the employer for verification, no matter if it is unpaid or not.

Honestly curious to know why you got fired. Also, I wouldn't lie, they do reach out to contacts from what I know.

Basically the internship was crazy bc it was unpaid but my employer demanded me to work for hours much longer than what is said on the contract. Plus the employer is really rude to interns and after a few weeks i wasnt as much responsive as I initially was. Then i got fired. This is a nightmare and i honestly hate this internship so much. Maybe that is why the firm isnt growing and only employ unpaid interns to do all of the dirty works

Is this for a 2025 or 2024 internship? feels either really early or really late for a background check

Actually for 24 summer. The firm is pretty laid back on BC and the internship actually started and i have already worked with them for a few weeks now
