Background Check Related Question

As far as I understand, background check entails referencing past employers about the candidate. I was wondering what might raise a "red flag" for HR? I assume there is a difference between getting in physical fight with co-workers and using a cell phone during work. Any thoughts on this?

 

I don't think they call previous employers. I still remain close with my boss from my college days and I know they never called him. I reckon they only call if something looks suspicious.

 

Gommini, you are right when there is the official background check..Some people might be reluctant..However some people just don't care and start badmouthing about you to make your life like hell...

However if you are a MD at Bank X, I am a MD at Bank Y, we know each other, we will have contact now and then and may talk about certain interns or former analysts about their quality...

When you tell me person Z is crap I think I will doubt whether I should hire person Z for any position in my team...
