Background review (Seeking advice on how to break into IB)
Hi Everyone,
This will be my first post to the forum and from my account. I've been in touch with the forum, and have found that there's immense knowledge and experience from each and everyone of you that has contributed to this forum, benefiting tons of people like myself, and I would like to just thank this forum for all the informal advice and suggestions.
The reason for my first post is to tap onto the experience that the forum has to help evaluate my current position and the likelihood of myself landing a Corporate Finance role in a bank, and I would hope to gain some insight and recommendations from you guys on what I should do moving forward.
Regarding my background, I am currently a Masters in Finance candidate at a public university in Singapore. I've been here living here my whole life, completing an undergraduate degree in Business Management 2 years ago. I started my career in consulting, with a big4 doing regular management consulting work, and decided to undertake a 1.5year MFin programme to better align myself to the industry which I would want to pursue.
Currently, as I'm undergoing my programme, I am actively building my profile to be as holistic as possible, volunteering as a student representative for my cohort, joining my university's golf team, and undertaking a part time internship with a boutique M&A firm (think deal size under $100m). Summer applications have come round the corner for most banks and I haven't had luck with any of them, not even landing a physical interview. I would love to know what would you guys think where my current weaknesses are compared with what banks are looking for, and any recommendations moving ahead.
Thanks in advance!
