Bank-Sponsored Trading Games - Resume/Cover letter?

How relevant are these for IBD positions? JP Morgan had a Fantasy Futures trading game, Morgan Stanley also had a trading game. I'm wondering if placing well on these (top 10 for a couple of weeks in the nation or something) would look good on a resume/cover letter.

Obviously people win these by taking absurd amounts of risk and getting lucky, but it still shows an interest in the markets in general, right?

Anyone else do the JPM or MS ones?

I did the JPM one. My guess is that placing well or even participating could lead to interview questions about trading strategies that you utilized. From the FantasyFutures website, it seemed that they had picked a few people who had done well in the simulation. So it may be of some advantage when applying to JPM. But again, these are just my guesses. I don't know much about the industry yet.

It shows an interest in finance and markets, and if you place well, I would put it on there.

However, you might need to spin it, as I am positive they will wonder/ask if you are also applying for S&T positions.

And you need to convince them you are not. Bankers are rather risk-averse, and you want to illustrate that you are a good fit...so something like "the trading game was interesting; however, i discovered it is not where my interests really lie" would work.
