Bankers told to fly COACH!!!

European bankers are getting hit from all sides right now. First it was the ban on short selling and now a proposed tax could cost banks every time there is a financial transaction in the Eurozone. What really hurts is the cost cutting measures that some are taking. Take a look at the list from business insider.

- The Christmas Party
- No travel for a week each month
- Junior bankers have to travel in Economy
- Some people have to take budget airlines like EasyJet
- Canceled newspaper subscriptions
- Restricted laundry bills on business trips
- Budgets tightened for marketing, advertising and training
- Restrictions on color photocopying
- Restrictions on "biscuits" (European for cookies)

No more cookies, rough stuff. So with European banks cutting back on perks do you think American banks are soon to follow? Or have some banks already started cutting perks?

International Pymp:
Horrifying. That makes me want to stay out here and continue playing my Air China "jin ka" (gold card) game.

You have to be kidding me... I would fly EasyJet any day over having to fly domestic in China.... so painful.

Economy for junior-mid level staff under 5 hours, business otherwise. If mandated, it's a different story.

I'm a European banker. I haven't seen any of the cuts you've mentioned at my bank.

Btw, biscuits is a British thing; it's not European.

  • That is, I'm a banker working in Europe- in London for a British bank.

I heard GS makes staff work until 8:00 for free dinner now! Used to be 7:30. Even the mighty are falling.

As for flying coach - fine I'll fly coach, but don't expect me to work until the next day because you can't sleep in coach if you're as tall as me. So the banks need to ask themselves: are the days of lost productivity worth the saving in airfares? And also I expect more comp given I get fewer airmiles for flying in cattle class.
