Is it possible to get guaranteed placement into a particular group if you have a few firmwide offers? Would you recommend going with the firm that you "feel most comfortable at," or playing them against each other and taking whichever offers you placement into your desired group? I'm talking summer internship here...

A lot of firms have policies against HR doing this. They can tell you they will look out for you, tell you they are your top choice for their group, but at the end of the day, they will not give you a piece of paper saying you will work in M&A or whatever. This is coming from someone who had an offer for 50% higher base at another firm and all he wanted was group guarantee.
