BB Sales?

I have a BS + MS (both non finance) from a top 5 school.

Offers: Industry (non-consulting/finance) - 60k, 9-6pm BB Sales - 84k, 5.30am - ?

I'm very much interested in the industry job because thats what I have knowledge in, something I perhaps enjoy doing and the atmosphere there seems nice and less competitive/cutthroat, and hours are quite okay as well.

GF's pushing me for the BB offer. I know an extra $24k/year seems attractive. I'm not really a morning person and how many hours do sales people work? I also don't see myself lasting >3 years at the BB. Mid term plan is to start something small and be self employed in 3 years. Not sure if BB sales will help me set me up with the experience needed.

PS: I have no loans to pay off. Coming out from school debt free.

So my question are: 1) Which would you pick? 2) Why? 2) How many hours do BB Sales work?

The industry offer is non consulting. So your exit ops seems very limited. And you said you wanted to start off your own business not sure what you want to do...and 3 years down the road is a long time you might change your view by then. BB would just give you more exit ops at least in the finance realm just for the name of the BB and you are in sales which can translate to marketing/sales skills to anywhere. I would go with BB unless you just really hate sales. When I used to work of the trade floor, I have seen sales people leave between 4:30-6pm mostly. But it also depends on which desk you are placed on. On longer days it might go up to 8pm, but that is about as late as it gets.

Generally speaking, you are always better of in a BB right out of college because it uplifts your exit ops... And like kbluearmor7 says, in 3 years (or even 6 months), you will change your mind.

But come on, we all know you'll go for the BB. who wouldn't?!

usually I'd say don't take your GFs advice - but she's actually right.

being somewhere at 530 will suck balls initially, but you'll get used to it and your body clock will adjust...

If your heart is not there you are going to be a half assed salesman which means your bonus will be crap and you may even get fired if your really bad. Make up your mind if the bb sales is what you want to do and if thats what you want to do then suck it up. Its not even about the money people if your heart is not there you are going to burn yourself out.

I would not work in ibanking for 200k a year as an analyst because I dont think the work is interesting and the hours are ridiculous.
