i did something similar except as a SA (i realize the levels of responsibility were probably pretty different), but basically there are always other people staying late, even if they're from another group.
plus it's the only time it was acceptable to turn on the volume on one of the TVs constantly on Bloomberg or MSNBC. had to watch the stanley cup.
