Best Practices for Interviews
Yo yo,
Now the whole world knows that apps are opening up for SA 2025, let's discuss best interview practices. Some firms like Gugg, will turn an app in 1-2 weeks. Next thing you know, you're walking into a Superday before New Years.
1. Confidence: You don't know shit about the job or basic finance. The interviewers know that. Half the job is pretending to know what you're doing and looking up answers on Investopedia. During an interview, confidence is key.
2. Not being a robot: Don't be a squid. I'm not hiring someone who is going to tell me they had a boring a weekend and "didn't really do anything cool." Part of being a junior is serving as comedic relief for the team. On that note, don't humiliate yourself.
3. Study the technicals, but don't kill yourself: Yes, you do need to have rudimentary technical knowledge for most interviews. However, you can put yourself in a really bad spot if you lead the interviewer to belief you know everything about finance. The more you know, the harder the questions.
I have a post on this I wrote a long time ago. Look up “how to nail the investment banking analyst interview”
