Best way to follow up?

What do you guys think the best way to follow up on an online application for an IBD position would be? I think the best idea is to call the division and try to talk to whoever is in charge of hiring, but am worried about being bothersome.

Any advice?

Best way to handle this is from a position of strength. If you already have an offer away- and a deadline- you need to probably first find the right HR contact. If you have info about the head of the Analyst/Associate program you're applying to, give them a call. Don't go for a hard sell- just say that you wanted to get your application in but there is a deadline you have to work with and you just wanted to make sure that you got considered and got a thumbs-up or thumbs-down before then.

no, ive called 4 different people including HR but they say that they have no process for outside hires to get through to whoever is in charge. i keep looking for numbers online, but they dont have any for IBD.

u can' tjus tlook online

you can't access or search company directory's for phone numbers if you're not working at that firm. When my friend wsa at citi before he left he took all the phone numbers in an excel file with him since once ur on a normal computer u can't log back into the local network.

the best way to get ibd work phone numbers and emails is to ask friends for their fellow analyst'scontact info or business cards. there's a reason ppl hand out cards and build rolodex's for networking.

ur best bet is to go through hr during normal recruiting. if they listed all their info everyone would be bombarbed by random phone calls during the day and bankers hate being disturbed as it is.

im aware of why they do it, thank you, i dont know anyone or i would have asked them first. im trying to figure out if anyone has had success getting around the red tape b/c i am not.

Generally speaking, gatekeepers almost never patch you trough if you don't say "Can is speak with John Doe, please?", but if you know a name, they would rarely question you. Now, getting the correct name is a problem, but if you just google or look on linkedin for company name + recruiter + location, you may get lucky or just get someone who doesn't work precisely on that, but is willing to speak with you / offload you to the person you should speak with.

Did you send a thank you email? If you did, then stop there and hang tight till you get a call. I know how nerve wracking it can be, but that is the best way to go about it. You dont want to come off as desperate. If they want you, they will come get you.

It's funny, one of my friends who is a 2nd year analyst now explained it to me.." X(BB firm) is like a hot chick, more you ignore her, more she'll want you"
