BofA UPDATE SA 2020

Hey guys, wanted to start a new thread on BofA SA, as the last one was getting too many trolls on it. Has anyone been updated at all? I spoke with HR and it looks like the program is going to be 100% virtual. also, they told me that it may be for the full duration. any thoughts or updates?

I haven't been updated but I'd imagine that since HR said they'd update us on placement day about 4 weeks after April 2nd, I'd imagine we'd hear updates about the program sometime later this week on Thursday. What else did HR say tho? Is the start date getting moved to July?

Idk man. If it's so obvious, you'd think they would have already told us. They must be debating something.

Imo, it obviously won't be a regular in-person internship. But given the questions that they've been asking us, I think a in-person internship with a delayed start is a real possibility.

They may be debating something, or they're maybe checking to see if their firm's current infrastrucure can support an online program, or maybe if it can't, they're waiting to setup the barbones before announcing working from home...Who knows...

"Markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent."

At this point I am torn between wanting it to be in person or fully virtual. That rent saved will go a long way in making quality of life improvements, I mean, have you SEEN a Herman Miller chair omg xd

I do not think it will be virtual. I got a call from HR and they notified my about things like "You must let us know at least one day before your starting date if you believe to have had any exposure to COVID-19." This in addition to a few questions asking if I had recently traveled or been in contact with anyone showing symptoms.

Why would they care about those things if I were to just sit at home. In addition, the fact that they've been taking so long to release any update, makes me think their plans are more complex than simply going virtual.

That call was to get fingerprint testing. JP Morgan had you do that part in person as well but went fully virtual.

BofA hr,if you’re reading this - if you give me an automatic ft offer I will literally work with you till the day I die, I swear on my mom’s life. Fuck PE, fuck all of that

Adding onto this, NYU summer intern housing just announced as of yesterday that they will not open up for the summer anymore. I think if BofA decided to bring everyone to the city they’d have to accommodate all those interns which would be a disaster.

Then what’s on the table? If they aren’t doing ft offers and they obviously aren’t doing an in-person internship and they aren’t cancelling it (per their email), then what are they still mulling over?

I don’t know why it takes them such a long time to make a decision when all the other American banks have at least updated some info. I assume that they are debating something very important. If there is no auto FT offer or in-person internship in the end, I think their reaction to the situation is quite poor and slow compared to other banks.

APAC Non-IB SA just receive HR update very likely to be virtual; will provide details later didn’t mention auto full time I’ll treat it as a sign of no auto FT

Also received. I guess the email only confirm that the orientation and training will be virtual? Hope you hear your thoughts.

There’s no way we’re starting June 1 if people still haven’t even received onboarding documents...

Current BofA Analyst, we have 5 summer analyst joining this year. As far as I know, no one knows exactly what's going on. I'm not in the NYC or Charlotte office, so a lot of the decision is going to be made by the market president. Even the head of group isn't sure what exactly going to happen and how we are going to work. However, I will definitively recommend summer analyst on my team to recruit elsewhere for full time, because I just don't see how they can have all these analyst sitting around doing nothing. As far as I'm concern the difference between an associate and analyst on my group is very small. For the past year, I have been doing associate work and I'm showing associates how to get stuff done. Historically, we didnt have a large analyst class either, but the group head decided to expand headcounts given increase in deals, however this has been hit hard by COVID-19. I have seen my hours going from ~60 hours of real work to 20 hours on some weeks.

Not to scare any of you new S/A, but I will make sure I have a backup plan. Other than that, just relax and enjoy the ride. I'm sure all of you will be ok.

I see your point about reduced work right now but the incoming SAs won’t start FT training until Summer 2021 and then won’t be contributors until Fall 2021, so how much does it matter that work is slow right now?

5 analyst for a group is relatively large number, never stated that the entire city is hiring 5 analyst. We didn't do any full time or S/A recruiting last year, just lateral hires, and most analyst stay for associate promo, probably 1/4 move to other opportunities. So, there's really no need to hire 5 2021 full time analyst, if business continues to slow. The point of this message is work flow to headcount this summer just doesn't make sense. We don't expect S/A to contribute anything to our work, just want them to use this opportunity to learn. However, if we have no work and continues to WFH, people will just finish the work by themselves because it's more time efficient. Lastly, I just want to convey the message that it's important to have a backup plan. I was in similar boat a year ago and know exactly the feeling that everyone is experiencing, but unfortunately COVID-19 is unpredictable.

Which city or geographic region is your office if you don't mind sharing?

Anyone have any ideas/thoughts on how a virtual internship would look for interns on different timezones to the country they're interning? I am personally in Aus with my internship in London which means 9am London time would be 6pm here.

I am personally in US with internship in APAC (Tokyo). HR said to me replying to my inquiry: "we may schedule something for you that will align with your time zone instead (we don't want you to be working during the midnight just because of time difference!)". But she did add that they are still finalizing everything and could only confirm at a later date. I also posted this in the larger "BAML 2020 SA" thread and had a bit of discussion with other people, if you want to check it out.
