boutique banks in san franicsco
Looking to join a boutique bank in san francisco this fall. I'm currently a junior attending UC Berkeley as an economics major also doing pre-med.
What are some boutique banks to be aware of in SF?
Because I honestly can't find any boutique banks offering internships when I google them.
Should I just email associates about internship positions?
Thank you my friends. I love you all.
.
the places listed above won't do part time school year internships... maybe except for lazard (they have a night time analyst program during the school year). you'll really just have to dig deeper... theres a list somewhere on this site... you should really just search.
Boutique, middle market, regional banks in San Francisco Bay Area (Originally Posted: 02/08/2007)
What are the best smaller banks (Boutique, Middle Market, or regional) in San Francisco Bay Area (menlo park, palo alto, san jose, etc..) in terms of fresh out of college, gaining the right experience, jumping into Bulge Bracket afterwards?

Does anyone have an opinion?
Some boutiques that jump to mind are Merriman Curhan Ford, Thomas Weisel, JMP Securities, ThinkEquity, etc...
Evercore just opened an office there this year. Don't know why you'd want to jump to BB after there though. I believe it's Consumer / Retail and Tech groups out there too.
Montgomery & Co., Cowen & Co, Thomas Weisel Partners, Jefferies Broadview and Evercore
Thank me later.

And please, do NOT approach a bank like Qatalyst Partners for a school year internship. Or most of the banks Goodwill_Gorilla mentioned, for that matter. You need to approach smaller boutiques. It should be easy to find Cal/Haas alumni at these banks.

Hello guys,
I am interested in moving up to nor-cal after graduation and tried to compile a list of good banks out there. But I am not sure if it covers all of them.
Here's what I came up with so far
Thoams Weisel JPM Securities ThinkEquity Montgomery Cowen Seven Hill Partners Viant Pagemill KBW RBC Lazard Needham Harris Nesbitt FBR Canaccord Jefferies Savvian william blaire Harris william BMO
Did I miss anything?
Thanks
Qatalyst KeyBanc Presidio Stifel
Blackstone Greenhill Perella Weinberg Evercore Keefe, Bruyette, & Woods HLHZ Duff & Phelps
There are probably tons more in the regional boutique thread
maybe look at somewhere like pagemill, jmp, arbor , pacific crest, the smaller guys who might need guys
I do know that lazard has a night analysts program when i was screening for resumes and some of them convert that into summer. Maybe try that.
Imperial LA and HLHZ LA had a school internship program but not sure about the SF office.

Anyone have a list of I-Banks in S.F? Looking for anything, BB divisions, Boutiques or MM
I don't want to be that guy, but there are quite a few threads on the subject. I'll copy&paste from the thread I have up on the subject but I haven't verified or looked at all of them so don't be a little shit if the information is dated or not fully comprehensive. I would post the link but I don't have enough banana points (hint) and be sure to check out Houlihan.
Thoams Weisel, JPM Securities, ThinkEquity, Montgomery, Cowen, Seven Hill Partners, Viant, Pagemill, KBW, RBC Lazard, Needham, Harris Nesbitt, FBR, Canaccord, Jefferies, Savvian, william blaire, Harris william, BMO, Qatalyst, KeyBanc, Presidio, Stifel, Blackstone, Greenhill, Perella Weinberg, Evercore, Keefe, Bruyette, & Woods, Houlihan Lokey, Duff & Phelps, Moelis, GS TMT.
FYI, regarding the above comment, Thomas Weisel and KBW are now both part of Stifel (which, yes has an office in San Fran)
Greenhill is in transamerica tower.
So should I begin my initial email asking for an internship position. Or should I ask about how to break into the industry and how to get an internship position at a boutique bank?
Depends on when you want the internship. If you have time, try to build a connection. If you need the internship this semester, get to the point.
bump.
