Breaking into MENA

Hi, I have been trolling this website for awhile, but just created a username.

I am interested in any insight in how to break into IB in the Middle East and North Africa. I don't have great stats, but wondering if there could be a chance at a BB or something there. I'm a rising senior with a 3.4 cumulative and 3.7 finance GPA from a non-target public school (top 25 business undergrad).

I do however have experience, I was an IB SA at a small boutique in NYC where I worked in an industry group and I have solid references. I am pretty sure I don't have what it takes to break into BB banking in the US, but I was wondering if it would be possible to get a shot in MENA.

Any helpful info is appreciated, thanks.

Ju1ceone of my relatives is the head of HSBC's IB- debt issuance arm. he says to try head hunters.

Yes he's right, head hunters are usually quite effective. In fact, I would say it is through head hunters or close contacts at the target firm. Also, it should be noted that Masters degrees & CFA's are looked upon as major assets & in a lot of cases as requirements. I would also say it's harder to break through if you're not based in the region and have just graduated. I'd look into gaining 2 years experience and an MBA before making that jump, that's the advise I got when I was interning there.

Good luck!
