Building a business network form day 1

I am an analyst at a lower middle market shop and I just want to continue to stand out and help try and drive business. I focus on my job and make sure that I am always thinking ahead; getting what needs to be done done. I was just curious if anyone has ideas on the best place to look build connections and start building a pipeline. I am aware that this doesn't happen in any short time frame, but I really enjoy my firm and I think I could see myself in banking for the long term. What would be the best way for an analyst to start building business contentions to eventually start bringing in deal flow (5-10 years down the line)? Is it offering to help startups in cap raises or other business services, or reaching out to other professional service providers so I can make the connections for people if need be?
