Calling a firm to see if they have an internship application?
I'm very interested in a firm that I would be an excellent candidate for, despite being at a non-target, due to my prior experience and my experience lined up for this summer.
However, they do not have a careers page and I haven't had any luck getting on the phone with bankers there yet, and I can only cold email so fast, as I don't want to come off as spammy. I am positive they have summer internships, since i've seen incoming SAs on linkedin, but they are all from the same two schools as far as i've seen. So I'm assuming they have an application that they send out through campus recruiting, which I won't have access to.
Would it be a good idea to call the firm at the number listed on their website to ask about something like this? Should I email the general info email address asking?
Edit: They were also recently acquired by another firm, so the email addresses may have changed, which may be why my emails have not been getting responses. The firm that they were acquired by is definitely not one I have a shot with however. The acquired firm has a niche that they specialize in that I have extensive experience in internship wise.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, calling the firm directly can be a strategic move, especially if you're not getting responses via email. Here’s how to approach it:
Prepare Before Calling: Have a concise script ready. Introduce yourself, mention your interest in their firm, and inquire about their internship application process. Be polite and professional.
Timing Matters: Call during business hours, ideally mid-morning or early afternoon, when they’re less likely to be swamped.
Ask for HR or Recruiting: If the person answering the phone isn’t directly involved in recruiting, politely ask to be transferred to someone who is.
Follow Up with an Email: After the call, send a follow-up email summarizing your conversation and reiterating your interest.
General Info Email: If calling doesn’t work, emailing the general info address is a good backup. Keep the email professional and to the point.
Since the firm was recently acquired, it’s possible that contact details have changed. You might also consider reaching out to the parent company to confirm updated contact information for the acquired firm.
Lastly, if you’re confident about your fit and the niche experience you bring, don’t hesitate to highlight that in your communication. It could set you apart from other candidates.

i might reach out to an incoming intern on linkedin and ask about their experience. in your reach out message, don't say "i would be an excellent candidate" to them, give a brief overview who you are and just say you are interested in interning at the place and would like to learn more about their own experience
i wouldn't bother with the existing employees, especially if you already tried a few and they didn't respond
I say call the company number and ask… can’t hurt. Just my opinion I’m a college student so what do Ik tho
