Can I Start A FT Position Elsewhere Then Quit?

I have an FT return offer from a BB in July 2024. I've also just been invited for another FT position starting H1 2024. I was wondering if I could interview and work there for 6 months and then quit?

Or if I could ask for a fixed term contract instead?

Appreciate any guidance here. I don't want to give any impression to my FT that I would reneg, I just want something to do in the interim.

Thanks!

Okay thanks. It's actually a more Capital Markets role, not super technical and I can do all the things in the job description. I was wondering if I was able to take a FT contract and then quit or if that would cause issues/reputational harm for when I move to my BB FT return offer?

The funny thing is, I actually had in mind this and thought it would be unfair on the bank I applied to, so I withdrew my application not even 24hrs after submitting it. But they still reached out to schedule an interview with me, which I thought was strange.

I see. No point in trying to push for a temporary contract either? It's just a position that I'm really interested in, and for some reason they're the only ones to bite, no OC interviews.

How would it look bad?

I wouldn't start and quit, that's a great way to have a bad reputation for absolutely no good reason. Also looks bad to have such a short first job stint on your resume.

If you're so interested in the position, take it over your other job? Otherwise just wait for the July start, this doesn't add much to your resume and they'll be fronting huge $$$ of training costs just for you to leave nearly immediately. Even for a non-technical job the first 6 months is all you figuring out life post college. You can ask but be prepared to just go your separate ways.

Okay, that makes sense. I'll send an email saying I misread the job description or something.

It's an interesting position, but it's a regional European bank with a heavy pay discount (like 35%) and the same type of desk as at my FT. Just thought it was really interesting and something to do in the interim.
