Certifications and Series Exams
I'm working at a boutique IB and have both my series 7 and 63. Are there any other FINRA administered licenses worth getting? I would like to add something to my resume other then the CFA.
Also, has anyone heard of getting your AVA (Accredited Valuation Analyst)? It is supposed to be easier and quicker then the CFA. I'm thinking about that as well.
Yeah..I too have the 7 and 66....and I have added these two and the CFA to my resume in the top education section. I read recently about a new 5 hour IB exam....you might want to consider that. As for the AVA, never heard of it.
Yeah there is going to be a banking exam, the series 79. The thing is if you are already in IB you automatically get it. After I think December you will have to take it as a first year.
CFA is 'probably' the most well respected but that is just my opinion. Another good certification is the FRM. This is the last year that it will be just one level. From 2010, it will be a 2 staged exam.
CFA is the most respected series of exam in finance...by a mile. FRM is good if you want to be a risk manager (albeit more important in this economic environment). Personally I think the CFA is the only 'worthwile' series of tests, and the CPA and CAIA can be debatable.
I may be dating myself here, but is there still a Registered Options Principal exam (I believe it was the series 24). That would be a good one if you're interested in trading. Obviously, the series 3 comes in handy for commodities, but I don't think that exam is administered by FINRA.

Series 24 allows you to run your own investment bank. BB/boutiques rarely sponsor junior bankers for series 24. Some banks don't like to sponsor even senior bankers for series 24. I know that because my boss just passed series 24 about two weeks ago.
