Chances of Breaking into IB - Non Target

Hey guys,

I'm a to-be international student in the US, pursuing an MBA and looking to break into IB. I'm expecting an acceptance into BU Questrom, and I'm yet to hear back from McDonough and Tepper. Now, should I get an admit into McDonough, it would obviously be my go to, but in case I don't, I'd like to know what the WSO community thinks about my chances of breaking into either a BB or a Tier-2. Preferred roles are M&A in product group and TMT/Consumer in the coverage group. Here's a bit more about myself

Excerpts from my CV

  • 6 Years of experience in investment research and portfolio strategy (public markets)
  • Supervised portfolio strategy, business development. investment research. and capital allocation for a $50M multi asset fund - outperformed broader markets by 15% p.a from 2022 to 2024

  • Expanded the high yield bond advisory book from $3M to $10M in 3 years through research (on 50+ high yield issues), building client relationships
  • Built and maintained business relationships with 8 fixed income brokers
  • Conceptualized and executed a pro-bono investment review programme and educated the public on optimal investment decision making. Clients converted - 85 investors with assets worth over $10M+ in 3 years.
  • Led webinars for business and general education, and wrote blog posts for my firm's social media and community building campaigns.

Education

  • Bachelors in Commerce - Majoring in Finance and Accounting - GPA 3.27/4 (Converted from an Indian grading scale)

Any tips on where to start with networking outside of school resources would also help immensely.

Thanks a ton guys!
