Changing seats in the office? Help needed!
Hi Monkeys,
My sweatshop started calling us back to the office. Problem is that as a 1st year I got allocated a seat next to the staffer, which I am not particularly happy about.
Any ideas on how to change seats in a smooth manner? I was told that the person, who needs to approve it is... the staffer. Any advice is appreciated.
Might seem like a small issue, but given past experiences with the staffer spending 15+ hrs a day next to this guy will significantly impact my quality of life.

Haha funny story that reminds me of this. I was on the way back from a org meeting with my staffer who was also the VP on the deal. I was trying to fall asleep on the plane back but he was seated right in front of me with his laptop out and working furiously, looking back at me every 5 mins or so. I bought flight wifi for appearances but it was hilarious as I kept falling asleep every 5 minutes. He couldn't really say anything but I could tell he was judging me pretty hard.
When the flight lands and we go back home, guess what lands in the inbox: 2 bake-offs, 1 new live deal, 3 pitch books

I had actually landed my PE offer earlier that week haha. But to be very honest, he was a pretty great guy (though could drive us pretty hard) and will be life long mentor to me. So OP, try to move to the best of your ability, but if it doesn't happen here are some ways to mitigate it:
1) Try to become friends with the staffer. Agree with him when he's shitting on senior bankers, talk to him about cars/watches, etc. Politics 101. Get on his good side however you can
2) Try to get staffed on his deals. This way it will be less likely he puts you on other stuff when you are grinding on his deals.
