Choice: SD in person or online
Non Target student that just got a superday invite for a top EB. There's the option to choose between in person or online, and I was wondering what is the best course of action? Is in person the best choice here?
Update: Thanks all. Went in person and got the offer!!!
in-person is gonna be your best bet. imagine being an MD and choosing between a student who flew in to interview versus someone who sat at home. I know people have their reasons for choosing a virtual interview, but the impact it has on your impression is unfortunately negative.
Depends what environment you think you’ll perform better in. Personally I always gravitated towards in-person because I feel like it’s easier to make a connection in-person, but I know others who had more success with virtual interviews.
Going in-person will reflect better on you and you will not suffer potential issues as wifi connection. On top of that, you’ll meet your potential team in-person and will definitely form stronger bonds.
Unless you physically can’t go, choose the in-person option.
do you think as someone who is fasting for ramadan they’d understand if I choose to go virtual?
does fasting prevent you from flying? I am confused
no not rlly it would just be hard to travel while fasting and then do the interview in person and fly back
It’s an even better story honestly. “I made a sacrifice for my religion and still made it to the interview. I was hungry but I was hungrier for the bag.”
I’m fasting rn and just traveled from east to west coast. It’s not that hard. If you care about your religion and the super day, you can make both work easily. Don’t be a pussy about it
Was fasting as well during my interviews this year. Honestly if you slide it in as a talking point it can turn into a conversation, but tbh most people didn’t care. I agree going in person would help more in terms of getting the job. So what I did since I was fasting:
First, before anything, try to schedule for the earliest interview slot possible - while you’re fasting a 9am interview performance would be better than late afternoon. Get your dinner when you fly in no matter how late and order extra to have for breakfast, stop by like a 24 hour cvs or something and get a large bottle of water and an energy drink. Eat your dinner if you haven’t already (most likely you weren’t able to have a full meal if you had to break your fast on the plane) and then get some sleep as soon as possible. When you wake up before sunrise, eat your breakfast and down as much water as you can so your lips and mouth don’t get dry during the interview (they still will and it happens to everyone but we’re trying our best here) and drink the energy drink. From then I just stayed awake, got dressed early, did some extra prep and was ready to go and i’m sure you can do the same. During the interview I felt fine and the caffeine made me feel energized.
Worst case though, (and i’m not completely sure) but I think we’re excused from fasting if we’re traveling or going to be undergoing mental exertion. Thus, you can always make it up at the end of the month.
you should go in person, its good for you to check out the office too and see if you like it, and pretty sure firms cover the costs of these travel and stays if u are worried about costs. online leaves a more negative impression if everyone else chooses to go in person
If you perform significantly better in one situation, go with that option – personally got all 3 of my offers from Zoom Superdays (2 EB/BB 1 MFPE) and got dinged from all in person ones. So clearly, I was better in one lol
Damn you must be a mouth breather
Depends what firm and group it is?
I was in a similar position, and I truly believe the only reason I got my EB offer was due to connecting well with the interviewers during the SD. Of the 16 people they interviewed, there were only half which showed up in people. You might even get asked out to dinner if things go well (I was unable to attend because I flew up and back the same day).
