Company Drug Test - Help!!!?

Greetings Monkeys!

I'm a junior at NYU. I've accepted an internship at BofA for this summer.

I know they will drug test all of the interns. I was planning on being sober for the most part, but then I realised that I'm halfway through my Roid cycle + taking Testosterone.

Will they notice and get mad if they see this appear on the drug test? I could stop, but my natural test levels are quite low at 272ng/dL. Any advice?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, drug tests for summer internships at major firms like Bank of America typically screen for recreational drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, and other controlled substances. However, anabolic steroids and testosterone levels are not commonly included in standard pre-employment drug tests unless the company explicitly states otherwise or the role involves specific physical requirements (e.g., professional sports or military).

That said, here are a few key points to consider:

  1. Standard Drug Test Panels: Most corporate drug tests focus on substances like THC, amphetamines, opiates, and similar drugs. Steroids and testosterone are not part of the standard panels unless specified.

  2. Disclosure: If you're taking testosterone for medical reasons (e.g., low natural levels), it might be worth consulting with a healthcare professional and having documentation ready in case questions arise. However, disclosing this to the company is generally unnecessary unless asked directly.

  3. Timing: Drug tests are usually conducted closer to the onboarding date rather than immediately after accepting the offer. This gives you some time to adjust if needed.

  4. Risk Management: If you're concerned about potential detection or repercussions, it might be wise to pause your cycle and allow your body to normalize. This could help avoid any unexpected issues.

Ultimately, while it's unlikely that testosterone or steroids will be flagged in a standard drug test, it's always better to err on the side of caution. If you're still unsure, consider reaching out to HR anonymously or consulting a professional for tailored advice.
