ConocoPhillips Commercial Trading

recently got an offer to intern next summer at CP as a commodities trading intern. searched and found some old topics but wanted some current info. anyone have an idea on CP reputation, exit opps, etc?

descrip: The Commercial organization targets individuals who have an interest in the commodity trading business and wish to begin their careers in this area of the energy industry. Opportunities are available in our Crude Oil, Refined Products, Natural Gas, Power and Natural Gas Liquids trading organizations with roles in the risk management, quantitative analysis, market analysis, contracts, pricing and planning functions.

however, my end goal is IBD and coming from an engineering background this is my first finance related internship offer. would this make me look unfocused if i try to apply for FT IBD spots next year? anyway I can leverage this for SA recruiting from a non-target this season?

smalleightsPretty solid gig, especially if you are trying to leverage this experience into an IBD energy group.

any solid evidence of being able to leverage this into an IBD energy group? everyone i talked to said there arent any real exit opps coming out of this program as its mostly just reporting on market trends.

Interviewed with them a few years back. As with most physical trading gigs, you work in more middle office type roles before getting the opportunity to trade. That is just part of the industry. But its a great company with an awesome campus (One of the best workplace gyms I've ever seen) and very reasonable hours. I think the pay was near 70 when I was interviewing which is essentially the same as making 100+ in NYC/SF. As long as you're not completely against living in Houston I think its a good trade
