Career Resources
if you can get in, definitely the best job you can get in Toronto. If you're coming right out of school, its essentially getting into private equity and skipping all the IB years...
great experience, but definitely some weird ass people they hire there.
^yuntsucks - what do you mean? How are the people weird?
A few of the guys I have met from there (maybe not a representative portion) do not speak english to well, and are purely used to crank numbers. This is one of the things you can pull off if you are one of the largest investors.
What's the pay like there, though, considering it's a pension fund?
Yuntsucks, have you met other analysts there? I know one or two people that joined from undergrad, but don't know any of the analysts that lateraled. They always seem to be hiring... or looking anyway... on their website and external sites' postings.
I know a few there out of undergrad. typical fratty/varsity athlete types
Can anyone shed any light on the interviewing process? Types of questions they ask? And how it's like working for the private investment group as an analyst?
The interview process is all fit, very little technical and for second round it is a full out case and you should prep a model and be ready to discuss details. Pay is inline with IBD, but the hours are somewhat less. the culture is pretty good but you ARE working for the Gov no matter what they tell you.
What are the hours on average? 9am-9pm?
How do they compare to Brookfield/Edgestone/ONCAP hours?
...It isn't bad, but the bonus is capped at 30% of base. Plus the exit opportunities are nowhere near as good as working for a global like GS/CS/MS, especially those that execute in TO like CS/BAML/UBS... just my thoughts
anyone familiar with the interview process??
I don't know much about the job or salary or exit opportunities so take this for what it is worth, but I met 3 people that were summering there last summer (one for the second summer) and all told me that they were going through the interview process with investment banks and that returning to CPPIB was their plan B (after Canadian banks as well)
